Electrical Engineering department at National Central University was established in August 1980. Ph.D. Yung-Chang Chen was the first dean of EE department. Later, Institute of Computer Sciences & Information Engineering was established in 1981. Ph.D. Wei-De Huang was the first dean of the institute.
In 1983 fall, Ph.D. Baw-Jhiune Liu became the dean of EE department. Next year, Institute of Computer Sciences & Information Engineering and Department of Electrical engineering shares one dean. In 1985, Institute of Computer Sciences & Information Engineering changed its name into “Institute of Computer Sciences & Electrical Engineering” and started Master’s Program. In 1987, Ph.D. Li-Ming Tseng led the department and got promoted to the director for Center for the Computer and Networking. Ph.D. Yau-Tarng Juang took over his position and Institute of Computer Sciences & Electrical Engineering started Graduate Program.
In August 1992, Undergraduate Program of Department of Computer Sciences & Electrical Engineering was established. Department of Electrical Engineering and Department of Computer Sciences share Institute of Computer Sciences & Electrical Engineering. In 1992, Institute of Electrical Engineering was allowed to enroll students and established Graduate Program of Institute of Electrical Engineering. Therefore, Institute of Computer Sciences & Engineering changed its name into Institute of Computer Sciences & Electrical Engineering.
In 1994, Ph.D. Jyh-Wong Hong took over Department of Electrical Engineering. In 1998, College of Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences was established and takes the EE Reins, then Ph.D. Yi-Jen Chan became the dean.
In 2000, Institute of Communication Engineering Established. It was under Department of Electrical Engineering (communication engineering program). Later, Department of Communication Engineering established. In 2004, Degree Program of Electrical and Computer Engineering Established but stop enrolling since 2011.
